Call for project mentors for the Google Summer Code 2018

Open Technologies Alliance will apply to the 2018 Google Summer Code as mentor organization. We invite all interested project leaders that wish to involve their project to Google Summer of Code 2018  to join our effort and be part of  mentors team.

Please fill this form with the project you wish to participate, define your ideas and the expected outcome and be ready if your project approved to spend 3 months together with the selected student to achieve your goals.

Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more student developers into open source software development. Students work with an open source organization on a 3 month programming project during their break from school. Mentors provide guidance such as pointers to useful documentation, code reviews, etc. In addition to providing students with feedback and pointers, a mentor acts as an ambassador to help student contributors integrate into their project’s community.

Mentors play a crucial role in the program by guiding students during projects’ development. They will help and teach students, set realistic goals and review their code when needed. That’s the reason why mentors should be familiar with their project code base. Mentoring for Google summer of Code requires commitment and dedicated time during the project period.

AETMA Lab had a significant presence at this year’s Industrial Informatics Festival (i2fest), held at Karvali, Kavala, 6-14 October 2017, as part of the KAVALAEXPO, the most important commercial exhibition in the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region.

Three platforms developed by AETMA Lab were presented, namely ARTutor (a platform to create AR books), mLearn (a system to manage and conduct educational field trips) and ARIATIS (an application which uses AR to present cultural content in airports), and have attracted interest by the exhibition’s visitors as well as by teachers and students from visiting schools.

In addition, a demonstration of the mLearn platform has been arranged for the 1st Technical high school of Drama in collaboration with their teacher, Christos Samaras. In the mLearn web platform, an educational field trip was created, and educational material for two of the exhibits has been uploaded. QR codes for these exhibits have been created and placed next to these exhibits in advance. The students have been in instructed to download the mLearn Android application the day before. Then, during their visit, the students scanned the QR codes and accessed the corresponding educational material. The demonstration has successfully shown the usefulness and the potential of the mLearn platform to both students and educators.

Visit at the Athens International Airport
